Cannovan, also known as the Independent Trading State of Cannovan, is situated in the northwestern corner of Western Glashia, with the Independent State to the east, the nations of Tsan and Kinashae and the Vast Sea to the south, and the Alaretra Sea to the west and north. It is a massive nation comprised mostly of trading and commerce cartels, merchants, businessmen, tradesmen, shippers, and buyers and sellers. Large crop and herd farms are scattered throughout the nation, as well as long stretches of land owned by several very powerful and rich horse breeders.
The capital city of Cannovan, Gyper Bay, is located on the shores of the Straits of Despair and is home to the governing bodies that rule over this independent nation. Large merchant families, run by their respective merchant princes and kings, rule over the day-to-day activities of the only nation in Western Glashia that is truly independent in every sense of the word. The armies of other nations may not cross its borders and the ships of the navies of other nations may not dock at its harbors. The sole purpose for the existence of Cannovan is free trade, within and without Western Glashia, and no merchant or trader may exchange goods with a merchant or trader from the country of Alaretra and its trading nation of Berniban, without first going through customs in Gyper Bay. To break this law is to break the code of merchants and tradesmen throughout Western Glashia, and is punishable by immediate death without trial.
